We have a 13 week old rottie pup that is named (for now anyway) "Hops".  We got him from a family in Thompson Falls, Montana. He was born on February 10th, 2016.  I believe the liter he was born with was about 5 or 6.  From what I understand, he was born with a back issue.  The breeder was not advertising him for sale because of his ailment.   We felt that our connections in Whitefish and elsewhere would give him a better chance of finding a forever family that will be able to give him the special care he'll need.   The next day, we took him to the Whitefish animal hospital for exams, immunizations, etc.  They also x-rayed Hops and diagnosed him with a congenital spine defect (one vertebrae is deformed).  I've attached a photo of the x-ray to see for yourself.  I encourage you to contact the hospital for a medical explanation behind his condition and prognosis.  Dr. Melissa, who examined him, also mentioned that his condition could possibly be improved with surgery further down the road. With all that being said, he is a happy and perfectly able little guy! As much as my family would love to have him as our own, I believe he'll do best in a quieter home so that his chances of getting injured are far less likely.

Addendum:Having Hops now for just over a week, I've learned a lot about his personality, etc. He is honestly one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met.  He just loves to be snuggled and held close. Loves all people and children.  He also is a bit timid and lacking confidence. He is a bit fearful of new situations and new dogs. I think all of this can be attributed to his back. Nothing gives him more confidence and comfort than his litter mate, Belle. He's her little shadow.  I'll think he'll do really well with another calm and confident dog at his new home.

Special Needs: Please be aware that Hops is a special needs puppy and he requires a home either as a single dog or with other dogs that will be gentle in their interaction with him. Rough play could potentially exacerbate his congenital spine defect.
